David Alan Grier is on Broadway in David Mamet's "Race"
Multiple Award-winning playwright/director David Mamet tackles America's most controversial topic in a provocative new tale of sex, guilt and bold accusations.
Two lawyers (James Spader and David Alan Grier) find themselves defending a wealthy white executive (Richard Thomas) charged with raping a black woman. When a new legal assistant (Kerry Washington) gets involved in the case, the opinions that boil beneath explode to the surface.
Jack Lawson (James Spader) and Henry Brown (David Alan Grier) are partners in a small yet seemingly successful law firm, which has taken on a young, Ivy-League educated African American associate named Susan (Kerry Washington)
Charles Strickland (Richard Thomas), a white billionaire, seeks representation. He's been accused of raping an African American woman, a crime he vehemently denies committing. Henry doesn't want to touch the case; he thinks it's unwinnable.
But after what appear to be inexperienced missteps by Susan, the firm is obliged to defend a man whose ostentatious privilege will have some convicting him before any evidence is presented.
Opening night was celebrated on December 6th.
